Teach Your Children

My oldest brother recently shared a story about my mom I had never heard before…

We were talking about vaccines and he mentioned that my mother, a Registered Nurse, used to vaccinate us at home. She’d boil a pot of glass syringes and metal needles on the stove, fill them with just the right dose and shoot us in the arm or leg. Thankfully, I have no recollection of it, and to this day, my brother still hates needles of any kind.

Of course this memory is not the only one he has of my mom, gratefully, but it’s definitely a darker one. Being the youngest of five, it made me wonder how my other brothers and sisters remember her.

So in honor of Mother’s Day, I gathered my siblings together, virtually, to compare our memories and talk about how she influenced us.

Some of the stories are funny and I think they show how much she shaped our lives...

In our latest MAJAMAS EARTH CARE WHAT YOU WEAR Podcast, I speak with my oldest brother Jim, an accomplished and talented musician, my sister Jean, a Paralegal Manager for a global law firm, my brother Christopher, a small business owner and my sister Carol, a Managing Consultant for AON.

My mother taught us so much. From the importance of protecting the smallest creatures to how to sing the seven harmonies in a song. She helped us appreciate a good sense of humor and taught us to go above and beyond for others without the expectation of something in return.

I hope you’ll listen to our stories and find a connection to something or someone in your life.

Happy Mother’s Day!
