Smiles & Small Acts of Kindness

There was a couple standing in front of me while I was waiting in the checkout line a few weeks back and they were so into each other, I started to blush. They were standing so close and couldn’t stop staring into each other’s eyes, whispering and giggling. I stood there thinking how easy it is for us to show our love in a romantic way but how tough it can be to show our love to others we don’t feel romantic about.

I’m not saying we should go around hugging strangers, but I miss the days when we were all a little kinder to each other.

There’s a lot of anger out there lately (for very good reason) but frankly, it’s wearing me out. We need to get a hold of our intentions and bring balance back to our world. When was the last time you said “Have a great day,” to a grocery clerk and or thanked someone for their hard work?  We’re all great at complaining but are we great complimenting?

As a company owner, I can attest to the fact that we always hear when a customer is unhappy with our product but we rarely hear when a customer is happy with it. Like all responsible companies, we try hard to ensure all our clients are thrilled with our clothes but man, when they’re not happy, it can get ugly.

I’m a firm believer in Karma. I believe if I put something out there, it’s gonna come right back. So, I’m on the road to sharing my love and sending positive reinforcement to the companies and causes I believe in. I’m going to spend a minute writing a company about a product I love and I’m definitely going to thank those who are currently “fighting” for causes I believe in (like the environment! It’s under attack now people, but I digress….)

Taking time to show thanks and share positive feedback is one of the easiest ways to create kindness and spread love. I realize I’m sounding all hipster but I believe our world is slowly losing its compassion. It doesn’t take a lot of time to send an email thanking an organization that’s fighting for a cause you believe in and it certainly takes little effort to smile and say “Thank You” to a stranger. Showing your gratitude for work well done is a way of sharing love.

In these small ways, I believe we can make the world kinder and in turn, gain some compassion for each other. So this Valentine’s Day, go ahead and give your romantic love all the chocolate and comfy Majamas Earth clothing ya want (hint, hint…) but spend five extra minutes sharing your love of a product, company, or cause too. Say “Have a great day!” like ya mean it and find a way to empathize with others. These small acts of compassion and letting others know you’re grateful for them will begin to fill the cracks in a foundation that feels as if it’s crumbling. It will help you feel empowered, and just like a good coach you’ll get more effort from those working hard for us with positive reinforcement.

HERE’S YOUR TICKET TO KINDNESS:

dm_lovedose_insta_ticketorangeIf you’re into showing your love for local companies and you live in the Chicago area, you can profess your true feelings at the Dose Market happening this Sunday, February 12th.

There you’ll find unique items like jewelry, food, clothing (yup, MAJAMAS will be there!) and probably the hippest group of shoppers that know buying local is a great way to share your love and support with those working hard for our personal enjoyment.
